Hurricane Prep

Hurricane Florence is heading to the East coast as a category 4 strength with 140 mph winds!!!!! Florence is due to make landfall sometime early Friday morning. This means we may see impacts as early as Thursday. Even though Florence may make landfall North if us, we can still sustain major impacts here in the Lowcountry. Governor McMaster has declare state of emergency and issued mandatory evacuation. Although it is highly recommended to evacuate, should choose to stay, be sure you have an emergency kit stocked and ready. This kit should last you at least 3 days in case of the inability to leave your residence. Some suggestions to include are as follows:

  • Canned food such as fruit, vegetables, meat, etc.
  • Don’t forget the manual can opener!
  • Non perishable foods such as bread, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, trail mix, granola bars, etc.
  • Stock up on water!!! You should have 1 gallon per person per day
  • Be sure you have food and water for your pets
  • Stock up on formula, diapers, wipes, and other necessities for infants and toddlers.
  • Make sure you are stocked on any daily medications
  • Collect flashlights, batteries, and candles
  • Fill your bathtub with water to have the ability to flush your toilet
  • Gather any important documentation and store in a waterproof bag
  • Have cash on hand in case businesses are open but cannot accept credit cards
